A one-day free eye checkup camp was organized on 31st March, 2023 by the Women Cell in association with the IQAC, PDUAM-Behali. A team of four members led by Mr. Prosenjit Halder, from ERC Eye Care, Tezpur, arrived at the college premises for the purpose. The team ensured quality eye care to the patients and distributed medicine whenever required. They also recommended further treatment for patients who needed the same. Out of the total 101 attendees who had their eyes treated, 25 were referred for cataract surgery while 40 were given eye medicine and 22 procured glasses at minimal costs. The attendees comprised of old and young people alike and came from the villages located around the college. Under the able guidance of Dr. Irani Saikia, Co-ordinator of the Women Cell and Dr. Valentina Teronpi, Co-ordinator of the IQAC, the initiative was carried out successfully. Both teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students voluntarily helped in the smooth running of the event. The feedback received from the attendees was positive where they praised the college for making eye care accessible. They also stated that they would look forward to more such events in the future and co-operate everytime the college took such initiatives. Overall, the huge turnout affirmed the community’s awareness regarding healthcare and their willingness to join the cause.
