The Department of Botany in collaboration with the Department of Zoology and IQAC Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya (PDUAM), Behali, successfully organized the 2nd International Conference “Biodiversity: Exploration, Exploitation and Conservation for Sustainable Development (ICB-2023)” on 10th and 11th February, 2023. About 300 researchers from Bhutan, Tanzania, Nepal, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kashmir, and Kerala participated in the conference. The meeting was inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Dr. Debojit Baruah who delivered the welcome speech while Dr. Shafiqul Islam Bhuyan, Secretary of the Organizing Committee and Head of the Department of Botany gave a thorough briefing of the conference. This was followed by the launching of the abstract book by Professor Karma Wangchuk of Royal University of Bhutan, Director of UGC-HRDC of Guwahati University Professor Partha Pratim Baruah, Head of Department of Zoology of Bodoland University Professor Hillol Jyoti Singha, and Registrar of Madhavdeb University Dr. Sharat Hazarika. A total of 250 papers were presented at the conference held in blended mode. The participants were well accommodated within the college premises.
The main objective of the conference was to introduce new horizons through study and exchange of new methods, techniques, knowledge, data collection, etc. for the conservation of biodiversity. Joint Secretary Dr. Mofidul Islam, Dr. Valentina Teronpi, Heena Agarwal and all the members of the local organizing committee collaborated for the successful completion of the event.
It is worth mentioning that the first international conference was successfully held in 2022 where about 210 participants from home and abroad presented papers. The resource persons of the conference praised the organizing committee for organizing two international conferences of outstanding quality in the last two years despite being a new college and encouraged them to continue organizing such international events in the future.
