The Department of Assamese came into being with the establishment of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya at Behali in 2017. The department of Assamese is one of the leading departments in PDUAM, Behali. The department aims at teaching new emerging areas of Teaching, Learning, related to Linguistics, Literary and cultural studies like Comparative Literature, Language Studies, Indian Literature, Electronic Literature, Sociology of Literature, New Media etc. Presently the department offers courses in Assamese (M.I.L) at the Higher Secondary level under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Guwahati. The department has currently two full time faculty members. Apart from teaching, faculty members are associated with regular publication in reputed national and international peer reviewed journals. The Department has a literary group titled “XAHITYA CHORA” ( সাহিত্য চ’ৰা ). Teachers and students of various department in our college are also involved in this group. The department is also planning to undertake various national projects to develop and expand Assamese literature, language, culture etc. and aims to organize national and international seminar/conference/workshop/popular talks in the upcoming year.

The Department also seek to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of students of rural areas of Biswanath District.
