Celebration of World Environment Day
The Environment Cell and Eco-Club, in association with the Departments of Botany, Zoology, and the IQAC, PDUAM, Behali celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya, Behali, with the global theme “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.” The celebration began with a plantation drive within the college premises, where students and faculty members actively took part in planting saplings, reinforcing the importance of ecological sustainability. Following the plantation, the inaugural session was conducted. The session was hosted by Ms. Arpita Borah, who warmly welcomed the attendees. The session continued with a welcome address by the principal, Dr. Debojit Baruah, who emphasized the importance of protecting the environment and raising awareness among youth about ecological issues. Dr. Mofidul Islam, IQAC Coordinator and Convenor of the Environment Cell, then delivered an insightful lecture that focused on this year’s theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution.” He highlighted practical solutions and the role of educational institutions in creating awareness and promoting eco-conscious behaviour. The inaugural session was concluded with a vote of thanks by the host, expressing gratitude to all participants, guests, and organizers for their contributions. The day’s events continued with an Eco-friendly Model Competition among inter-secondary schools of Biswanath district. A total of 19 groups, each consisting of three members, showcased innovative models aligned with the theme. A panel of five faculty members judged the competition. The winners were:
- First Prize: Daphne Senior Secondary School, Biswanath
- Second Prize: Gyanam Senior Secondary School, Borgang
- Third Prize: Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Baghmara
The winners received cash prizes and certificates of achievement, and all participants were awarded certificates of participation. The celebration concluded with a prize distribution ceremony followed by light refreshments, marking the successful completion of the event. The celebration witnessed the participation of around 100 students and faculty members from the host institution and nearby schools.
